Our office policies:

Appointments

Since the pandemic, there has been an increased need for dental services and a decrease in available dental professionals. Because of this, it is of the utmost importance our patients do their best to confirm and preserve their scheduled appointments as it may be difficult to find other openings. We require a standard 24-hour notice for cancellations and may charge a fee for recurring missed appointments. We have a grace period of 15 minutes for arrival and will need to reschedule past that. We do our best to avoid delaying other patients.

We have been working diligently to get our patients back on track for their visits. We stopped taking new patients for some time and our staff has increased their working days when able. We are finally catching up!

Radiographs (X-RAYS)

Dental images are necessary to diagnose oral conditions. Radiation exposure associated with dentistry represents a minor contribution to a person’s total exposure from all sources, including natural and man-made. Our office believes in upholding the standard of care for x-ray scheduling and our guidelines from The American Dental Association, collaboration with the FDA, are as follows:

Adults and Children:   Bitewings, which check for decay between teeth, once a year.

Pano/Full Mouth Series, which check entire mouth, jaws, etc., once every 5 years.

We will begin taking images on your child at the age of 3 as tolerated. Adult patients must have bitewings taken within a 24-month period, and children within 12-month period before it becomes a liability. Unfortunately, you will be dismissed from our practice if you are not willing to cooperate.

Prophylactic Antibiotics

Patients who have had joint replacement and certain cardiac surgeries may require prophylactic antibiotics prior to dental treatment for the prevention of infection. Premedication recommendations are usually universal but are prescribed differently sometimes by each surgeon. We follow the surgeon’s guidelines. If you are unsure, please check with your surgeon’s office for their protocol. Consulting in our office takes time from your appointment and may result in rescheduling. Our office does hold few antibiotics in the event you may need one, but we cannot guarantee to have your correct dosage. These are also subject to availability. We will charge a fee for habitual dispensing. There may also be a waiting period for dental treatment after some procedures. Please try to keep your medical history accurate and inform us of any new changes as certain medications can influence treatment decisions or may impact post-operative care instructions.

Observing Parents

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that parents of older children remain in the waiting room when children are brought back to the dental operatory. Studies have shown that children respond better to dental treatment when their parents are not in sight. Our office is implementing this practice for children 5 years and older. It has become a safety hazard and privacy violation for patients and staff. Our purpose is to establish rapport, gain your child’s confidence, and overcome any apprehension towards dental treatment. By allowing your child to seek treatment unassisted, you are placing your trust in or office and teaching your child to do the same. We understand there may be extenuating circumstances and exclusions and will consider these with discretion.

Insurance

Please inform us of any insurance changes prior to your scheduled appointment. While we do our best to remain knowledgeable of current plans, it is ultimately the patient’s responsibility to understand their individual benefits. Our treatment recommendations are based on your health needs and are not dictated by your specific insurance coverage. Insurance companies tend to cover minimal to standard care and often do not satisfy all fees. It is our policy to privately review your available benefits, treatment options, potential costs, and payment concerns with you in advance. We highly recommend sending pre-estimates prior to treatment to confirm your benefits. ESTIMATES DO NOT GUARANTEE PAYMENT by the insurance company and we cannot be responsible for discrepancies in the represented benefits. The final determination of payment made by your insurance provider is made at the time of claim processing. Benefits payable are decided according to the insured’s eligibility, limitations and exclusions, pre-existing conditions, and plan parameters. We encourage you to check your dental benefits towards the end of the year to utilize any remaining benefits you may miss out on.

Dental insurance companies have not taken into account the rise in cost of products, materials, and laboratory fees our economy has caused in recent years. We do not believe these companies should be able to limit or dictate the resources our patients have in regards to their treatment decisions. To better serve our patients and continue the high level of dental care we promise, we will be re-evaluating those benefit plans and attempt to renegotiate those contracts at the beginning of the New Year in hopes to stay in these networks. We will continue to update you with any changes.
